Mr. Hu Ping, Editor in Chief of the journal Beijing Spring , is a famous political critic who resides in the United States . Revered for his insight, clarity of thought, and personal integrity by both mainland and overseas Chinese intellectuals, he was labeled a “dissident” by the Chinese Communist Party 24 years ago. Yet, the so-called Chinese dissidents are not nearly as few as the CCP claims they are. Rather, they represent the social conscience and the voice of the people on the street.
